What is Dizziness?
The Mayo Clinic defines dizziness as, “fleeting faintness to a severe balance disorder that makes normal functioning impossible.” It affects the eyes and ears, which are sensory organs, so it may sometimes cause fainting. It may feel like:

- A false sense of your surroundings (spinning or moving)

Causes
Dizziness may be a symptom of other disorders. It can come from something as simple as motion sickness after riding a rollercoaster or getting up too quickly. If you have felt like the world is spinning around you, you have experienced vertigo, a dizzy spell that causes an off-balance feeling. It can be caused problems in the inner ear, which sends signals to the brain about head and body movements relative to gravity. This is how you keep your balance. Some other causes include:
- Neurological Conditions
- Medications – Dizziness can be a side effect of certain medications, especially ones that lower blood pressure.
- Anxiety disorders
- Low iron levels
- Low blood sugar
- Overheating and dehydration
Risk Factors
- Age – Older adults are more likely to experience dizziness because of medical conditions and the medication that they require.
- Past episodes of dizziness
