Stay Active in the 225

Stay Active in the 225 Can

Hello, 2020!

A new year and a new decade are just beginning and we know you have big things in store. Goal-setting often comes with the start of the new year, and we want to help you reach those resolutions.

One of the most common New Year’s resolutions? Getting in shape. The team at Patient Plus wants you to stay healthy long after you leave our clinics, so we want to help you reach this goal.

Whether it’s buying a gym membership, purchasing weights, or splurging on new running shoes, starting a fitness journey can be costly. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of inexpensive (or free!) things to do around the area for staying active.

Happy’s Downtown 5K

On Tuesday evenings, runners from all over the city meet at Happy’s Irish Pub (136 3rd St.) to run 3.1 miles. The 5K route varies, but each takes you on a sightseeing jog of beautiful downtown Baton Rouge. The run starts at 6:15pm, rain or shine. Check out the 5K Facebook page for more details!

Gotcha Bikes

One of the newest additions to the community are the Gotcha bikes. These electric bicycles are the perfect way to explore the area or commute to work while staying active. After downloading their Gotcha Bikes app, you can be pedaling around town in no time. It costs $2 to unlock the bike and 10 cents for every minute you use it. When you’re done, drop off the bike at the hub nearest to your destination. There are bike hubs available in the downtown area as well as LSU and Southern University’s campuses.

The LSU Lakes

The area surrounding the LSU lakes is a beautiful place to run, stroll, walk your dog and see the beauty the 225 has to offer! The route (seen below) is 6 miles roundtrip but can be cut short to 4 miles when you exclude City Park. For safety, it’s important to wear reflective materials or bright colors to be as visible as possible. Pedestrians should also travel toward traffic so they can see exactly when and where the cars are coming from.

Free Yoga AND beer? Yes, you read that right. Every Wednesday at 6pm, Tin Roof Brewing Co. (1624 Wyoming St.) holds “Yoga on Tap” a free, hour-long session with different instructors each week. Tin Roof also offers happy hour from 4-7pm, so grab your yoga mat, come early and secure a spot either on the lawn or inside the brewery (depending on the weather conditions).

Patient Plus Urgent Care – Get in, Get better.

When you’re sick or injured, whether routine or urgent, quality medical care should be easy to find and available when you need it. That’s the idea behind Patient Plus Urgent Care, with convenient locations in Baton Rouge, Hammond, Prairieville, & Brusly.

Patient Plus treats most common illnesses and injuries — the sniffles, rashes, fevers, aches, breaks, and other conditions that deserve prompt treatment but aren’t serious enough to require a trip to the nearest emergency room. The clinics provide complete diagnostic services, including X-rays, EKGs, and flu and strep tests. Other services include physicals, vaccinations, and more. Patient Plus clinics are open every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and patients never need to call first or make an appointment.
